A half day course suitable for Health Care Assistants and new Practice Nurses which will equip staff with the required skills and knowledge to perform the task with confidence and efficiency.
The course is highly practical and participants will have the opportunity to learn the necessary skills using special training limbs.
Attendees will be required to perform five successful blood lettings which will be supervised in practice by a designated assessor.
A Statement of Competence will be issued on completion of the necessary training log.

• Accountability and legal issues
• Anatomy of the venous system
• Criteria for identification and selection of veins
• Equipment: Vacuum system, “Butterflies”
• Practical demonstration of techniques
• Facilitated instruction and supervision in workshops
• Complications and safety issues.
